Nestled gracefully among the magnolias and rolling topography of Hillsborough, a remarkable home stands as both a testament to the past and a bold step into the future. This custom historic preservation project honors the legacy of its original architecture while introducing a striking modern extension—an elevated, cantilevered structure that redefines the relationship between history, landscape, and contemporary living.

The original house, rich with historic character, presented both beauty and challenge. Time had taken its toll on the aged bricks and delicate structure, demanding meticulous care and craftsmanship to preserve its integrity. Every decision—whether in stabilizing the façade, reinforcing the foundation, or restoring the masonry—was guided by a deep respect for the home’s heritage. The result is a restoration that safeguards the authenticity of the property while breathing new life into its historic bones.

In striking contrast yet harmonious balance, the new extension rises 18 feet above the ground, its sleek form suspended dramatically over the hillside. The cantilevered deck projects outward, offering sweeping views while seemingly floating among the treetops. This architectural gesture embraces the site’s natural topography rather than altering it, creating a home that is at once grounded in its surroundings and elevated beyond them.
